There are many old horror movies that can terrify you pretty well, but there are also many great modern horror movies that are just as terrifying. Nevertheless, there are also many bad horror movies too. In fact, the horror genre is by far the most unpredictable one.

What has stayed consistent though is the abundance of ghosts and other supernatural beings in horror movies. Not all of them are scary though, so here are 10 Most Lovable Ghosts In Horror Movie History.

Aggie (Paranorman)

Paranorman is a stop-motion animation film that can hardly be considered a horror film. However, most lovable ghosts appear primarily in movies targeted at kids, and even though these aren't explicitly horror films, they are scary enough to be considered horror movies for children.

Paranorman is a boy who can see ghosts, and Aggie is one of his new friends. She is a ghost that used to be a small girl who was accused of witchcraft in 1712 (and executed for it). Despite being introduced as the antagonist of the story, Aggie soon turns out to be innocent and very likable.

Dr. Malcolm Crowe (The Sixth Sense)

Unlike Paranorman, The Sixth Sense is an actual horror movie. Directed by M. Night Shyamalan and starring Bruce Willis in its title role, the film is about the child psychologist Malcolm Crowe trying to help a boy named Cole Sear. Unfortunately, we already gave away the twist by adding Malcolm to this list.

The reason why Malcolm is so lovable is that we get to learn about him more and more throughout the film. He is the protagonist of the story which is unusual for ghosts in horror movies, but that doesn't make the film any worse. Instead, it becomes even better.

Slimer (Ghostbusters)

It was pretty obvious that the iconic Ghostbusters movie would sooner or later get a remake or a continuation, so now we are all eagerly waiting for the new movie with some of the original cast. But until then, it would be a sin to forget the iconic Slimer ghost from the original film.

Slimer is one of the antagonists because he has to be caught just like all the other ghosts that have escaped. However, he seems more likable than others thanks to his green color and behavior. He seems like some kind of cute, a little bit crazy animal trying to eat everything it sees.

The Twins (The Shining)

Some might disagree with this, but the twins from The Shining were likable to an extent. Of course, they probably gave many viewers the chills, but that doesn't excuse the fact that the two girls are still quite passive and don't attack any of the protagonists.

An interesting and little-known fact about the casting of Lisa and Louise Burns, who played the twins, is that the characters were never meant to be twins. However, once Stanley Kubrick saw the two girls, he decided that twins would be spookier and immediately cast Lisa and Louise.

No-Face (Spirited Away)

No Face stands on a bridge in Spirited AWAY

One of the best Studio Ghibli movies, Spirited Away is the only non-English-language hand-drawn animated film that won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Even though it is not a horror film and doesn't have the dark tone of the other animated features on this list, it still has many scary moments.

The whole story revolves around Chihiro, a 10-year-old girl, who visits the spirit world and spends her time with ghosts while trying to save herself and her parents. No-Face is one of the more ambiguous characters that sometimes acts as a friend and sometimes as a problem for the girl. But all in all, she makes up with this ghost and they continue on an adventure together.

Emily (The Corpse Bride)

The Corpse Bride is the third stop-motion animation film Tim Burton produced, but it was the first one he directed. Despite this being a cartoon, it has all of the stylish dark features present in Burton's works, so it can be quite scary to children in some moments.

Just like Aggie in Paranorman, Emily is first introduced as the antagonist of the story. She is the one Victor accidentally marries, so she takes him to the land of the dead because she is a ghost (or something similar to a ghost). However, as the film progresses, she becomes more and more lovable.

Zero (The Nightmare Before Christmas)

Ghost Dog Zero in Tim Burton's The Night Before Christmas

Even though The Nightmare Before Christmas first looks like a cartoon for kids, it soon becomes apparent that it is actually kind of a dark story considering the fact that one of the towns that it is set in is literally all about Halloween and has many monsters living in it.

But however spooky some of the scenes might be, there are always some really heartwarming moments, and Zero the ghost dog is one of the cute things about it. Zero belongs to Jack Skellington, the protagonist of the story, and is often seen following his master. In fact, he even helps him at some point in the story.

Beetlejuice (Beetlejuice)

Tim Burton can truly be considered the master of horror films with beautiful and pleasant stories. He has this dark yet magical tone that no other director can exhibit. Beetlejuice, obviously, is another one of Burton's works that has a ghost of the same name at its center.

Played by Michael Keaton, Beetlejuice (or Betelgeuse) is the poltergeist that the protagonists, the ghosts of a recently deceased couple, turn to when they can't get rid of the new, living inhabitants of their house. Despite being quite mischievous, Beetlejuice is an anti-hero rather than a villain, which makes him quite adorable at times.

Sparky (Frankenweenie)

Another stop-motion animation film (also directed by Tim Burton) is Frankenweenie. It follows a boy named Victor whose dog Sparky dies after being hit by a car. However, he reanimates it with the help of electricity but then has to face his friends who also want to revive their pets.

Sparky, just like many other dogs, is very playful and energetic. He is also very curious like his owner and loves acting in Victor's homemade movies. What else could you wish for when Sparky is already the perfect dog?

Casper (Casper)

The 1995 feature film Casper is often referenced as the first movie to have a fully CGI character in the lead role. Casper is often considered to be the most lovable (and perhaps the most popular) ghost in the history of media including film, literature, and even comics.

Unlike the previous works that featured Casper, this movie goes for a much darker interpretation of the story as it actively explores the theme of death. Nevertheless, Casper remains the most loved ghost both by kids and by their parents.
